Vermont // Fall and rain boots

Fall… Sometimes I say to myself that I love it: nice late-afternoon light, incredible trees colors, mild wind… And some other times, I’m just sad that the summer is away. But the region is nice here, so let’s not complain (at least, not too much). If the season has a great reputation here, it’s probably mainly due to Vermont, which, as its French name says is green and full of mountains. We spent one day over there a few weeks ago, after the day we had along the Mohawk Trail in Massachusetts. Bucolic landscapes, scenic oads and cheeses tasting: this is the perfect postcard. Moreover, it was the ideal occasion for me to wear for the first time my new rain boots. I chose them pretty basics and discrete: pretty low and black. I still have to get used to wear this kind of shoes before buyinf red rain boots with yellow dots.

Vermont : green and hills. Vermont is a tiny North East state, up north Massachusetts (aka chez nous, our place). We stayed only on the south part of the state this day, and we even stayed for a short while in New Hampshire, to try ice cream shop recommended by the cheese shop where we spent some time. We’ve already been in Vermont once, when we were in Montreal and we had a great souvenir in mind, full of trees and hills. It was quiet when we stayed in Montpelier, we liked the city though.

What do you do in Vermont? During wintertime, you go skiing  The rest of the year, there’s just one thing to do: walking in the countryside or close to lakes. And tasting local food. I’m always surprised by the fact that you can always try and taste everything in the shops. At first, I try to stay polite and to try one small piece of cheese. Then I wandered on the boutique, with the tooth pick stuck in my mouth. After a while, the cheese calling is stronger than me and I have to go back to stands and try all the cheeses. I’m a weak consumer, I buy anything a seller recommend me. I say to myself that it’s local and perfect for a breakfast: maple syrup, honey and of course, cheese.
